The Parenting Journey Training Institute: "An Evening to Celebrate Families"

The Parenting Journey Training Institute is pleased to announce that our first annual event to benefit our work in New York City, “An Evening to Celebrate Families”, was a rousing success!  The event, held on October 21st, 2008, was attended by over 200 supporters, and raised over $259,000 to-date! On behalf of all of us at The Parenting Journey Training Institute, I want to thank all of you who joined us on October 21st to celebrate the resiliency of the family and the transformative power of The Parenting Journey Programs.

Parenting is a Journey That Begins the Day You Are Born

There are currently over 68,000 children living in New York that have been identified as “at-risk” and are involved with Foster Care, Protective Services or Preventive Services. (Administration for Children Services April, 2008 Statistics)

Recognizing that families are the most valuable resource in a child's life, The Parenting Journey Training Institute has introduced new programs specifically geared to supporting these vulnerable children and their families. Its mission is to provide front line workers with effective tools and resources to assist parents in building self sufficiency in their families.

Over the past 12 years, The Family Center has trained nearly a thousand community leaders and providers throughout New England and New York to implement the highly effective Parenting Journey programs. The Parenting Journey programs are designed to strengthen the parenting skills of parents who have not had the kind of upbringing that serves as a source of strength and knowledge for successfully raising their children.

The Institute was opened in New York last fall to meet the growing demand in the community for its innovative Parenting Journey programs. To ensure the greatest social impact, The Institute offers providers and community leaders effective, replicable programs which address the problem of too many children paying the price for their parents’ shortcomings. Its business is training family workers in New York City – those charged with shaping up our most vulnerable families – providing them with the tools they need to help parents break cycles of family dysfunction so that they can raise, support and nurture their children.
